Dr. Jay Crank
Dr. Crank graduated from the Michigan College of Optometry in 1993. He also obtained his Bachelors in Vision Science from Ferris State University. Dr. Crank has been practicing in Grand Rapids for over 20 years specializing in Primary Care, Ocular Disease and Contact Lenses.
Dr. Crank was the founder of Travel EyeCare, a mobile eye clinic serving people with difficult transportation needs. He has volunteered his time with mission trips and at Cherry Street Health Clinic in downtown Grand Rapids. Since 2003, Dr. Crank has been an Adjunct Faculty Professor at the Michigan College of Optometry teaching future Eye Doctors primary eye care and ocular disease. Dr. Crank speaks regularly across the country to the optometric community as a Professional Development Consultant.
His family consists of his wife Tami for 21 years and two daughters Carlie and Lindsey. Dr. Crank resides in Caledonia and his children attend Caledonia schools. He enjoys representing his community through coaching hockey, volunteering at church, and serving on local boards.
Dr. David Scholten
Dr. Scholten graduated from Calvin College, then went off to Illinois College of Optometry. He began his private practice shortly after graduating in 1976. After 43 years, at his Kentwood office, he joined Premier Family Eyecare in 2019. Not ready to give up practicing and his patients quite yet, he still enjoys working two days a week. In his personal time, he enjoys spending it with his wife Jan, his two children, and his eight grandchildren.
Kim C. – Office Administrator
Kim has a bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Merchandizing, and started her career in 1989 working in the ophthalmic industry. Over this period, Kim has gained valuable experience working in multiple environments which include optician, ophthalmic technician and scribe, surgical counselor and practice manager of a large ophthalmology practice. She is a big asset to Premier Family Eye Care and we are so fortunate to have her leading our team. Kim and her husband live in Caledonia and enjoy traveling around the world.
Carlie graduated with honors from Caledonia High School in 2016. She is attending Ferris State University in the fall and is going into the Pre-Optometry program. She will be learning on the job to help prepare her future as a doctor. Carlie enjoys working with people and has an excellent work ethic.
Christina has been employed in the optical industry for 4 years. She began as a lab technician by edging and mounting lenses into frames and quickly advanced to the position of Lab Manager by efficiently controlling the flow from ordering lenses through to their completion by ensuring accurate, clean work.
Wanting to build upon her knowledge in the optical world she expanded her responsibilities to include the role of an optical technician, which consisted of performing patient pre-tests for the optometrist. Soon she progressed from the back office to become an Optician on the floor by directly assisting customers. Her lab background gives her a unique perspective when it comes to choosing which frame and lens style that will work best for your individual needs.
Christine works as a ophthalmic technician and learning to also become an optician. She previously worked as a CNA at several nursing homes. She has two children, and truly has a passion for helping her patients.
Claire started her journey in optical in 2021. Prior to learning optician work, front desk work, and billing, she worked in retail. She is originally from Montague, Michigan. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with family and her two cats.
Jamie helped open Premier when it started in 2016. Jamie has been working in optics since 1993, both as an optician as well as an ophthalmic technician. Jamie has been married since 2002 and has three daughters. When she isn’t at work, she enjoys spending her time with her family and sells Mid-Century and vintage items on the side.
Jessica, who works in a variety of different capacities, previously worked in the healthcare industry before joining us. She works as a front desk receptionist as well as a technician for preliminary testing. When not working, Jessica is spending her free time with her family, which includes her spouse and her daughter. Jessica is a huge asset to the company and is always ready to lend a hand.
